🌱 Volunteers Needed: Help Restore the Shoshone Springbrook Channel! 🌱
Join us in Shoshone, CA, as we continue the vital work of restoring the spring outflow channel to expand the range of the endangered Shoshone pupfish—a species once thought to be extinct. This project is supported by Shoshone Village, the Desert Fish Habitat Partnership, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program.
📍 Where: Shoshone, CA (30 minutes west of Pahrump, 2 hours from Las Vegas)
📅 When: Friday & Saturday, January 24–25, 2025, from 9 AM to 4 PM
Activities Include:
🌾 Planting wetland plugs (Cooper’s rush, salt grass, goldenrod) along the channel
💧 Watering plants to help them establish
🪨 Harvesting and placing rocks along the springbrook channel
🚫 Removing invasive cattails
🌱 Weeding and maintaining the Amargosa vole marsh
🌿 Trimming willows and removing debris from the lower marsh
What to Bring:
- Dress in layers for varying temperatures.
- Rubber knee-high boots or waders (if available) for water work.
- Work gloves (expect mud!) and a refillable water bottle.
- Food/snacks for the day.
Camping: Let us know if you’d like to camp at the Shoshone Campground and specify the nights needed.
