Matt's career and accomplishments span several decades in public land management and policy, working in the United States Forest Service 🌳 and Bureau of Land Management. Matt most recently served three terms as 5th District Supervisor for Inyo County, retiring in 2024. 🗳

☎️ When you call, be sure to state your name, your town/city of residence, and to thank him specifically for speaking out in support of public lands and consultation with local communities on local land management decisions. Make sure he knows that we do not support public land sell offs without going through the proper process!

It's that time of year! Look out for our slow-moving reptilian friends as they clamber around the desert in search of good grub here, there, and everywhere.

Be sure to check under parked cars before moving, and best of all, drive like a Tortoise! ⚠️🐢

🌸 While temperatures recently climbed into the triple digits 🌡 in the Amargosa and summer looms ahead, it's important to take solace in the spring splendor while it lingers.

This Mojave Indigo bush 🟣 (Psorothamnus arborescens) lining highway 178 in Chicago Valley sure holds a place in our minds as we look forward to the adversity of extreme heat and dryness, and a different kind of flourishing ahead.

Friends, your dedication has made a significant impact, and we want to take a moment to share more of our work, thanks to your faith in our mission. 🫶

Continuing the Momentum 📈

We’ve continued to meet with diverse stakeholders, including community groups and local entities, Tribal Nations, local and state elected officials, and local user groups to inform, solicit feedback, and garner support. We are creating lasting partnerships in pursuit of a shared goal of sustaining the land as it sustains us. It takes us all to protect this special region in perpetuity.

🛣 Our work has taken us far and wide this year, and we've been logging the miles to meet with stakeholders from Baker 🌡to Death Valley ☠️, and the Eastern Sierra 🏔 to Havasu Lake 🌊. Each journey within the basin or across other magnificent desert lands brings us closer to bringing people and places together to protect the unique values of the Amargosa Basin.

As we near the halfway point of 2025, please donate $100 or whatever amount is right for you to the Friends of the Amargosa Basin.

Each contribution, whether big or small, plays a crucial role in helping us make a National Monument a reality for the Amargosa Basin.
